Spirit of the Holidays
"Lisa, although AAHOPE sent the official thank you note, I need to tell you that your generosity overwhelmed us. When we delivered those presents some of the clients cried and others were in disbelief. Working with the most disenfranchised of people is always a challenge for us. We struggle to meet their most basic of needs but you helped us go well beyond that."
"Dear Lisa & Friends,
This thank you letter is unlike most you might receive. I remember when Kevin died and knew Dennie while I was the President/CEO of the AIDS Coalition of Southern New Jersey.
Your recent holiday gifts to twenty of our neediest families are greatly appreciated by our Board of Trustees, staff, and especially our clients. About 400 of our clients are women, many with young children. About 90% of our 1400 clients are 200% below the federal poverty guideline. Many of them didn't start at that level, but once they were no longer able to work, that's where they eventually found themselves.
Your family is to be commended to honor Kevin in such a noble and generous way. The fact that you continue to love other--most of whom you've never met--says a lot about your motivation for these kind acts. As HIV/AIDS has become less of a crisis in recent years, funding and support has greatly diminished. This is an illness that is no longer at the forefront of people's donations.
You have not forgotten our families. For that, we are most appreciative.
Please accept our deep gratitude for your kindness and generosity."
