Cheerleading Week

Cheerleading Week - January 22-28, 2024

Cheerleading may seem like such feminine stereotype, but it’s rather a highly involved and intense sport that requires a lot of training, finesse, and positivity. For those out of high school, cheerleading may have not been just a faze, and many went on to compete nationally and internationally, becoming famous cheerleader that people adore. Cheerleading Week aims to give appreciation for their athletic achievements.

History of Cheerleading Week

Cheerleading Week is all about celebrating the accomplishments of cheerleaders, learn about the aspects of cheerleading and help those interested to understand the benefits of cheerleading as a sport. Cheerleading Week was founded in 2005 by Linda Lundy, a former coach, choreographer, and judge who was well-respected in the cheerleading sports industry.

A former chairperson for the US Aerobic Association in Texas and a current member of the US All Star Federation, she turned her experience in helping people achieve their dreams to cheerlead into a holiday that people can celebrate and learn more about famous cheerleading athletes.

Cheerleading can be a positive experience for many who take part in it. It can boost confidence, greatly benefit health, and improve socialization. However, for those who don’t know much about cheerleading, many would think it’s just jumping, waving of pom poms, and yelling along the sidelines. For those who do know, however, it can be a lot of work, take a lot of practice, and can be competitive on an international level.

Cheerleading can be an amazing part of people’s lives and as such, the goal of Cheerleading Week is to learn about cheerleading by engaging in group activities, community service, and fundraising projects.

How to Celebrate Cheerleading Week

If you’re interested in taking part in Cheerleading Week, you can celebrate the holiday by trying out an audition in your local community. Go to the library to read up on famous cheerleader athletes.

Help volunteer at your local high school or college for a kick-off pep rally. If you’re passionate about cheerleading, start a campaign that educates people about what cheerleading is all about and interest people in joining their local team.

Write an opinion piece and post it on your favorite blog or local newspaper. Share this holiday on social media using the hashtag #cheerleadingweek and let your friends know that this week it’s all about cheer.
